Les U-Racks sont utilisés dans l’orientation opposée à celle des J-Racks, en ce sens que le support est clipsé au harnais ou ancré au niveau de la zone de courbure du cadre, les « jambes » pointant toujours à l’opposé de l’utilisateur. Le U-Rack ne facilite pas la variation de frottement en abaissant ou en ajoutant des barres comme le fait le J-Rack et le U-Rack ne doit jamais être utilisé avec moins de 4 barres. L’avantage du U-Rack à 4 barres conçu par SMC est d’avoir les deux barres attachées opposées. Cela offre la possibilité de méthodes d’arrimage plus rapides (l’utilisateur peut tresser la corde entre les 2 broches un peu comme un taquet de bateau est utilisé) et l’utilisateur peut avoir des possibilités de friction plus « fines » sur un système plus court et plus léger.
